ZOLNA, Kenneth M., 74, of Valrico, passed peacefully at home after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure March 17, 2015. Born in Cleveland, Ohio December 9, 1940 and attended St. Stanislaus Elementary/High School graduating in 1958 and immediately left for Marine Corps boot camp in Parris Island and became a Seagoing Marine traveling the world. The highlight of his military career was being on the USS Lake Champlain when it picked up Astronaut Alan Shepard after his historic trip to space. He retired after 34 years with NYNEX in West Bridgewater, Mass. before retiring...

ZOLNA, Kenneth M., 74, of Valrico, passed peacefully at home after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure March 17, 2015. Born in Cleveland, Ohio December 9, 1940 and attended St. Stanislaus Elementary/High School graduating in 1958 and immediately left for Marine Corps boot camp in Parris Island and became a Seagoing Marine traveling the world. The highlight of his military career was being on the USS Lake Champlain when it picked up Astronaut Alan Shepard after his historic trip to space. He retired after 34 years with NYNEX in West Bridgewater, Mass. before retiring to Valrico with his wife, Mary. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-64. He enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, and spoiling his granddaughter. Ken was a member of the American Legion Riverview Post No. 148, a life member of the Marine Corps League, the Marine Corps League Devil Dogs, the U.S. Seagoing Marine Association, and helped organize USO Central Florida at Tampa International Airport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Hedwig Zolna; brother, William A Zolna. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary; son, Jeffry; granddaughter, Chyann; and extended family. A celebration of life will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at Stowers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to USO Central Florida, 4100 George J.
